History

The Oktoberfest in Munich, often affectionately called the "Wiesn," has a history spanning over 200 years. It originated in 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (later King Ludwig I) married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on October 12. To celebrate this event, the citizens of Munich were invited to festivities on a field outside the city walls, which was later named "Theresienwiese" in honor of the bride – a name that remains to this day.

In 2010, Oktoberfest celebrated its 200th anniversary with a historical festival, the "Oide Wiesn", offering insights into the traditions and customs of past times. Due to its great success, the Oide Wiesn was established as a permanent part of the festival and has been held regularly ever since.

Today, Oktoberfest is the largest folk festival in the world, attracting millions of visitors from across the globe every year.
